Timelapse to Freeze Frame

BobF wrote on 9/13/2010, 11:28 AM
I've seen some timelapse videos (don't know if they were done in Vegas) in which the action speeds along then slows down to a freeze frame before starting up again.

I've tried to play with this in Vegas using velocity ramps but am not getting the look I'm seeing elsewhere. Unfortunately I can't find one at this moment to link to show what I'm referring to.

Thoughts how this might be achieved in Vegas?

Thanks.

Velocity should do what you want.

What are you getting that you don't like?

Be sure to use at least 3 keyframes for each freeze

1 for the frame before the freeze at 100%
1 for the 0 velocity
1 for the next frame after the freeze at 100%

Was your timelapse shot interlaced? I've had trouble before getting a freeze frame on interlace using the envelopes.

A workaround is:

1. Put the cursor where you want it to freeze frame
2. put your preview to Best(full)
3. Save a snapshot to file
4. Split the timelapse on the timeline
5. Insert the snapshot between the two parts and make it as long as you want the freeze to last.

Other will probably have better ideas, but I find using the envelops to freeze frame not ideal.

Dave was typing the same time as me...

Just a thought though-you should use 4 keyframes instead of 3. They should go:
100%
0%
0%
100%

Otherwise between the 0 and the 100 the speed will ramp up, and won't stay frozen.

Ok... Like how? What exactly are you trying achieve?

Grazie

OOps, yeah should be four keyframes.

Sorry,

Not interlaced. Created from stills. I'll go back and play with the velocity ramp some more.

What I'm getting is a blurring of the action in the frames as it slows down. The individual stills aren't blurred as the shutter speed is high enough to avoid that.

Disable resampling. With resampling on Vegas blends adjacent source frames together to generate the frames inbetween.

I think that did the trick. Thanks.
