timeline

Hey Everybody,
A quick question when I have several clips on the timeline and I try to move one to another location it all the others want to move with it, also when I try to move one down the time line all the others move down the timeline with it as well, is there a setting I turned on by mistake or is this normal. It is very frustrating not being able to move or change one clip without disturbing all other clips.

You have ripple edits enabled, which is usually more useful than harmful if you know what it does. There's a button in the menu bar that looks like two rectangles with a left pointing arrow above them. Click it to turn it off.

You can also set it to ripple just the one track the events are on, all tracks, and all tracks with markers too.

that worked, I use ripple edit all the time when i am editing a single track of old super 8 or VHS to DVD transfer and it works great. But what I am working on now involves multiple tracks and that is where I found my problem. when in your opinion is the best time to use ripple edit or not use it.

For me, I only turn it on when I need to move everything over and turn if off immediately.
Otherwise it causes me to waste a lot of time. I always forget to turn it off at some point;
I'm one of those that wishes that the icon would flash when it's engaged.

Perhaps it's just that i have a much deeper understanding of the ripple edit function than those who complain about it a lot? Dunno. Don't want to sound conceited, but i have to say that i run with ripple edits enabled *most* of the time because it almost always does what i want to do. Often when working on a multi-track project i'll set it to ripple just the one track, but even then i still have it set to ripple everything more often than just the one track.
