Timeline marker jumps back to start of timeline

I just got Vegas Movie Studio, after years of using Premiere. so I'm having to relearn some things.
I've started editing a project, and so to play the timeline I hit the space bar. When it gets to the place I want to stop the timeline marker, I again hit the spacebar, but instead of stopping, the marker jumps back to the beginning of the timeline again.
I saw a post about the "loopong markers", and made sure they are both set at 0. How do I make the timeline marker stop when I hit the spacebar?

The shortcut key for start is indeed [spacebar], but the shortcut for stop is [esc], not hitting [spacebar] again. Hover the mouse pointer over any control and it will say what the shortcuts are.

Hitting the ESC button ALSO makes the timeline marker return to the start of the project! I can hit the enter button, which makes it pause- why have spacebar and esc do exactly the same thing?

You figured it out, the spacebar and esc, stop playback and return the timeline marker to it's original position. The 'enter' button stops playback and positions the timeline marker at that new point. Cin
