Timeline playback problem

Sorry for the elementary nature of this problem - but can someone tell me why sometimes I am unable to play back the timeline, either from the start of my project or from the current cursor position? Very annoying!

Perhaps a basic thought but have you brought the track into focus or are you still playing from, for example, the Trimmer?

Playback can also be affected by the power of your processors, the format of your source video, your project properties, the number of tracks you're using and how many effects you've added.
