@all users having the Replaced Footage issue: I have just downloaded and installed Gary James' Timeline Tools.

That is perfect. Indeed.

I have some projects where Vegas (11 newest build 382) changed my footage.

Fearing the next time I would present one of my videos and experience the horror of some replaced footage (it really gives your audience some second thoughts about your editing skills) I had to close-watch each and every rendered project after each and every even so small change. Quite time consuming, that is.

Since yesterday I just click Garys Timeline Tools extension and in seconds it checks my project and tells me if there are any replaced footage in it.

In my working project I was aware of one replaced footage - but the Timeline Tools found another one.

This is G R E A T.

Thank you so much, Gary.

In case anyone has missed this, it's in the latest version of Gary's script, and it's under:

Track Event Info > Select Media Type filter > Show Misnamed Takes & Media

Assuming there's no IP issue, this would be a nice addition to the "project audit" functionality of the other "general purpose" Vegas scripts.

I wonder if someone can build on this and turn it into a repair function. Or failing that, perhaps at least write out an EDL based on the take name, or media file name (whichever one of those is correct).

I'm glad you bumped this, Nick. It's worth pointing out that this is a TOTALLY FREE download.

Gary James rose to the challenge -- rather quickly -- in response to the discussion in this thread: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=817650&Replies=12

Those who have had the "Vegas replaced the media bug" have reported that the media gets swapped to something else while the name displayed on the timeline is still correct. This is because the timeline shows the "Take" name: a unique string created for each take -- which can be renamed to anything you like -- but which starts out holding the filename of the media.

As long as you don't manually rename your takes on the timeline, Gary's new tool can find and list occurrences of replaced media. It examines all the items on the timeline and flags any items where the Take name (i.e. the displayed name) doesn't match the filename of the media that take is linked to.

Thanks, Gary!

Looks very good. Can it be installed on it's own, or do you have to install the whole of Timeline tools?

Arthur, Timeline Tools is a single Sony Vegas Pro Add-In program. It's installed the same way you would install any of the commercial Add-In packages such as Excalibur, Ultimate-S, or Vegasaur.

Among its many features for manipulating Events, Media, Markers, Envelopes, Points, Plug-Ins and Groups, the "Show misnamed Takes and Media" display filter is just one of many built-in Event filters that displays matching Events in the main display grid. For example you can display Events that have the same Take names, or Events that use the same media file, Missing Media files, Vegas Generated media like Text, etc.

There is no way to separate out just the one filter action from the rest of the program.

Thanks for the info Gary. I was asking because I already use Vegasaur, which does a lot of the same stuff, so didn't want to install something that does the same job. I'll install TLT anyways though just for that particular script!
