Timeline Slows W/Composite Effect

Ok... You read the title and think, "Well, DUH! Of course compositing will slow playback."
Fair enough. But my questions is this; Should having a layer (in this case it's layer 2 of 10) that is in Screen mode slow down the playback of the entire project? I've got a project that clocks in at about 15 minutes (so far) and one little area that needs some animation screened in. I noticed that EVERYTHING was playing back slower. After searching for anything I may have done (an accidental DVE, Opacity dip, etc), I finally started muting channels. Turns out, that 2 second clip that I want screened slows down the entire playback.
Is this normal?

There is a known "problem" (feature) of the 3-D track motion mode. Having it on any part of a project slows down EVERYTHING (preview frmae rate drops even on areas of the project which do not have the 3-D effect applied to it). That doesn't quite sound like what you are doing - but it may be related. The work-around - is to do those parts of your project that require 3-D in separate Veg files/render them and combine the results back into the master project.
