timeline thumbnails disappear, video preview video not working

When attempting to work on a project (old SD footage in an .avi file) after several minutes of work, especially when scrolling along the timeline, many of the thumbnails randomly disappear, and then whenever I play video I hear audio but the preview screen does not show any video. When I save close and re-open, it's fine, for 30 seconds and the issue returns.

Movie Studio 21.0.1.92 (UDP3); Windows 10 Home; Core i7-12700K with 32GB memory

You have Movie Studio 2022 which is not a VEGAS products. It's a version of Magix Movie Edit Pro, which is quite different. Support for it is not available on this site. However, support for Movie Studio 2022 is available from the Magix user forum at https://www.magix.info/us/video-forum/.
