timeline tracking in fx windows

Acts7 wrote on 6/7/2003, 10:14 PM
I search but came up with nothing helpful.
Here's whats going on:
I open an FX window and I want to add keyframes however the preview window isnt tracking where I am in the timeline.
Sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt
for example I have some text. I was to have it start with the "tracking" WAY out so I hit thr first frame take it way out then click half way down FX timeline window and was to add another keyframe
however even after having adjusted the tracking the timeline doenst appear to have moved. Its still sitting on the first frame

If you need clarity on my request please let me know
Thanks

BUMP!!

Let me rePhrase.
When I open the FX window and move to different parts of the timeline IN the FX window, the preview window doesnt display - Im not talking its slow I mean it doesnt change at all. (a few times it works but not always)
SOO... how do I make it happen all the time. So if I click somewhere on the FX window timeline - the curser moves to there so I can see what Im doing at that point in time??

THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Do you have the sync cursor in the locked position so it tracks the main timeline?

Are you remembering to set key frames by clicking on the little plus sign (+) where you want them?

Have you used the minus sign (-) to remove keyframes you don't want/need?

The process is really very simple once you do it a few times. Move the handles to size/position the frame you want, enter a keyframe, click the plus (+) key, move on the main timeline where yo want to make a change, set a another keyframe as explained above and on and on.

For some effects you can get better results using the PluginPac filters.

You definitely have to have the sync cursor button depressed It is the I-beam icon located at the lower left corner of the keyframe timeline.

However, you will find that this sync cursor button is inexplicably grayed out on some dialog boxes. In particular, you can't track from within generated media, including text!! I have found this to be a major pain, and don't understand why it is so. Apparently it is not a bug, because SOFO is aware of it, but it sure doesn't seem right to me. Anyway, if you are trying to see the results by scrubbing on the keyframe timeline from within a generated media fx menu, like text, it won't work.

John - I'd like to have a "joystick" [ sorry BillyBoy! ] that I could use to "fly" a clip over the Preview screen, using Pan/Crop motion, while either using one of the joystick's shoot buttons OR a keyboard key - like M for Markers - to just "fire" a K/F onto the K/F T/L! Yeah? SoFO has nearly got it there - just that last itsy bitsy inch. This would be a rather elegant solution - don't you think? - I find stopping and starting the Preview, to put in a "Diamond" K/F a bit . . . . well . . . last century technology . . . come to that last year's technology. SoFO have Joystick tech support for Colour Correction and Sound Panning - why not now Pan/Crop T/Ls too?

Regards,

Grazie

Yea, a big AMEN to that one brother! This is soooo frustrating. SoFo, if you could see it in your hearts to add sync to cursor to everything in the next release that would be great.

I was trying to map two sets of generated media so that one would slowly reveal the other as they move together and not only could I not sync to the cursor (it was grayed out), but the generated media keyframe timeline was not calibrated the same as the video timeline. So while my video cursor might have been on 12:06.15, the scale on the keyframes was 00:00:00 – 00:06:00! ARGH! It was impossible to sync these up without using a calculator. I would like to see this made easier in the next release.

Amen! The generated media's total time doesn't automatically match its visual length on the timeline (unless you first select a timeframe -- e.g., by double-clicking on an event, and then Inserting generated media on a track above that event), and the keyframe synch button is grayed out, which causes editing errors.

yes quite - annoying since text is used a lot!
PLEASE CONSIDER this a REQUEST for future update to Vegas
