title bar creation question

smeagol wrote on 10/22/2004, 3:37 PM
I created a title bar using 3 video tracks and would like to render them together so I can use it in another vegas project. However, when I put the rendered avi file into the project, there is a black background that covers the entire screen. The only thing that shows is the title bar. Is there a way to render the title bar so the background is transparent?
Thanks!

Render it as an uncompressed AVI.

When you pull it into your project, right-click->Properties->Media and choose an alpha channel.

I tried this and the background is still black. Should I do something different with my track compositing mode? It is currently at Source Alpha. Thanks for your reply...I am still pretty new to all this.

Make sure you also checked off the option to "include the alpha channel" when you render the file. Also it is not the compositing mode you need to set - it is the actual media properties.

See a long discussion on this here

The solution that I used to get this working was as follows;

Render to AVI (default template - uncompressed) - make sure the "RENDER ALPHA" is set to yes.
Load this into my other projects and right click the media and select properties/Alpha straight.

Although others recommended to render to a quicktime MOV format as that results in far smaller files - but I am told with no quality loss. See the thread above for more detail.
