Okay, what do you want to do? Let's start there . . .

Most titles (Title Deko, Inscriber, the one in Premiere) allow the uses to insert several blocks of text and graphics in the same title.

For instance creating the type of titles used to identify a person on a TV newscast. The persons name is left justified. There is a line (sometimes with shaping) under that. Under the line is the person's affiliation right justified in a different font.

I did a couple of videos where I did that kind of title 10 to 50 times in the video. Trying to create multiple layers using the internal Vegas text generator would have been a laborious process.

I've just finihed doing a few, its not that bad, once you've got the first set of layers where and how you want them just copy them and edit the text.

Id agree maybe it doesn't seem that flash as what the standalone stuf will do but it's very flexible and doesn't cost. Just a question really of what your needs are and budget.

BTW none of them seem to do as good a job as many of the old stype character generators in terms of producing titles that will look good on television as opposed to PC monitors.

I recently bought a package (actually, upgraded from an older version) that provides for creating some fabulous text effects. It's "WildFX Pro", from Wildform (www.wildform.com).
The earlier version generated only in Flash format, but in the new release, it's also possible to export to AVI, to generate text-clips that can then be used in Vegas.
As with fancy transitions and other special FX, it's really tempting to over-use this stuff. But with a modicum of restraint, it's really great.
PROVISO: I don't think it'll do what the original question in this post asked about -- blocks of text with different formatting, etc. But it'll do a whole lot of other stuff.
I have no relationship at all with Wildform, except as a customer for this particular product.
PS: It's 99 bucks, thus attractive only if you need to do lots of text-ing.

I hope he doesn't want to underline scrolling text :)

Boris RED 3GL should be available shortly - the titling is second to none.

It does have a high price tag but if you think about all the other stuff it can do and what you pay for the six other apps to do it it can be justified.

THe killer is it will be available as a plug in for Vegas as well a a standalone environment.

If you have TitleDeko why don’t you just continue to use it? Just save your titles as TGA and then drop them into Vegas. If you’re doing multiple titles that are similar, you can leave TitkeDeko open and just keep changing the name of the save file. Isn’t this the way it works in Premiere anyway? (not that you have to use TGA files but you still have to save the TDK file don't you?).

Wouldn’t be great if we could get a TitleDeko plugin for Vegas? I don’t think there is a chance since Pinnacle Systems has Edition now; they are backing off supporting any other software with Hollywood FX or TitleDeko.

Actually, I don't have full Title Deko, just the Premiere plug-in version. But yes, I can create titles in Premiere and export them as a file Vegas can read.

You don’t need to load Premiere. Just click on "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere 6.0\TitleDeko\TitleDeko.exe" (or wherever the TitkeDeko, exe file is on your system) and it will run stand-alone. Make a shortcut to your desktop and then just click on it when you need to make a title and save as TGA. Then drop in the TGA in Vegas.

None will become available when you see the price for Boris RED. $1500!!! (it might as well not exist for me) :(

I sent them an email and they said they were also working on porting their more affordable line of products (Boris GRAFFITI and Boris FX both $595) to Vegas as well. I told them to call me when then get Boris FACTORY ported. ($99) ;-)
