Titles in Vegas

I'm new at VV3a and sort of in the reading up stage now but have one project that I need to get underway ASAP. I have the quick start quide, complete users manual, digital video production book, etc.

Speaking of the manual for now, I was trying to find some information therein regarding using Vegas to put titles and text into my production. The information I could find is very sparse and does not sound at all like titles being done within Vegas.

Does Vegas do titles? Does it have fonts, and simple boxes where you plug in the letters and words you want to see and how you want the scroll to flow, etc?

Lots to learn in Vegas. Some concepts I am just not grasping very easily. In a pinch, if I have to do this project in something easier like VideoFactory, can I still use the MPEG-2 encoder I purchased with Vegas 3.0 to encode a VideoFactory AVI into MPEG-2 for a DVD?

I'm not giving up on Vegas. In fact, I'm already arranging to get second monitor to hook to a Matrox G550 dual head. That should make the Vegas desktop easier to work with. Ahhh, the learning curve. It's always the tough part.

If you've done titles in Video Factory, you'll find that Vegas does all that and more. Click on the Text/Backgrounds tab and select Text. You'll see a variety of styles to choose from. Once you've chosen one, you may select any TrueType font you have installed and go from there.

Here's an additional text tip:

The credit roll plug in does not support drop shadows but I found a work around. After you create your credits, copy to another video track below the existing one. Edit the text to be black (or whatever color you prefer) then use the positioning to offset to lower right or wherever you want the drop shadow. It works pretty good. You have to remember that if you change a parameter in the top video track, you will throw off the sync of the drop shadow. Rule of thumb, don't create the drop shadow track until you are completely satisfied with the text in the top track. I am trying to figure a way to use blur in the drop shadow, but am not having much luck. Any ideas?

Thanks for the info. I need to make some really elegant titles that fade-in, float accross the screen diagonally as they fade out. Hopefully I'll be able to figure how to do that in Vegas. I'm not sure buying the manual was a wise move. It seems to talk in very general terms. Learning this program is going to be a hands-on affair, all the way.

You can do all that you are requesting in vv3. Most other programs you would have to buy title plug-in software and even then you wouldn't have the power of vv3.

Do what Chienworks suggested. After you get the title on the timeline, click the Event pan/crop box on the clip and fool around with that for a while. When you get stuck, post your question.

There is a tutorial on the CD you got with your purchase of vv3.
