titling bars

DREWBEE wrote on 6/2/2008, 4:21 PM
I was wondering if Vegas offers an engine or any presets to assist in creating those titling bars at the bottom of the screen wherein which you place an interviewee's name or personal information while making a doucmentary-style film.

Ususally, these bars are colored and half-faded or I don't know the terminology, but they're hald inclandescent.

If not, can anyone give me tips on where or how I can obtain some high-quality ones? Thanks ! - Drew

Lower Thirds. You can make then in Vegas, you can buy them from places like Digital Juice and Vasst has software that creates them for you (GrafPak/Ultimate S).

I believe you are referring to what is called lower 3rds. You can create them in Vegas using the generated media, shifting them down and adjusting the transparency. You can even key frame in some motion. Generally the order of tracks from top to bottom would be text, lower 3rd, video. There are no presets that I am aware of.

You can also purchase them from places like Digital Juice. Look at their Editor's Toolkit series or do a search in Google for lower 3rds.

Like you, I am not a professional video person. However, I have learned from reading these forums that what you are requesting is referred to in the trade as a "lower third." Do a search on this term in this forum and you will find LOTS of answers to your questions. You can search in Google for Vegas Lower Thirds:

Vegas Lower Thirds Google Search

and find some good stuff.

Here are a few I got from other people to get you started:

Lower Thirds

As you will see, you use multiple tracks, the title generator, and some sort of background.

As the above poster said just create some layers to your liking and cropping them down to create lower thirds.
My favorite way to do lower thirds is to create a seperate project just for my lower third bars and then render then without the names or titles. Then bring that into your final project as a video file on a higher layer, then use the crop tool, setting it to not fill the frame, then crop out the black parts to give you your title bar, then use one of the transitions to bring it in and out. And add your text in the final project on top of your lower third bar.
