New update for VMW5 (5.2.3.66) now supports .avs files.

Have you figured out how to upgrade from 5.1 to 5.2? The email makes it look like I have to purchase an upgrade. I can't find a download link on their site.

When you first purchased 5.1 you would have needed to register the product. Just 'Login' within TMPGEnc site and you will be taken to the download site. There is no cost going from 5.1.1.52 to 5.2.3.66.

What is not clear is whether to update by overlaying as per Vegas or uninstall the old version prior to updating. I could find no guidance so used the later method. TMPG just pickedup my serial number and OKed the programme for use. Could not find a whats new list so simply tried an .avs file. Pleasant surprise to find it now works again.
