To upgrade Vegas Audio to Vegas Video or not?

Hi, I’m looking for some sage advice.

I have been a happy user of Vegas Audio 2.0 for a the past year. Since I don’t see VA on the SonicFoundry WEB page any where I’m assuming that I will have to upgrade to Vegas Video 3 to stay current. Correct? I do mostly audio multi-track live and project work.

Before I plunk down the $180 for the upgrade I thought I get some advice from you as whether to upgrade to VV 3 or move over to one of the more audio oriented programs, all of which are considerably more than the upgrade price BTW.

Some questions:
1) From an audio perspective is the loading on the CPU’s about the same? Or asked another way can I record the same or more tracks without drop outs or clicks in VV as I can in VA? VA does quite well in that area.

2) I’ve seen mention of changes to the audio routing from VA 2 to VV 3. Is this a concern?

3) Can I have VA 2 and VV 3 installed at the same time if needed?

Lastly here in the forum and on Usenet postings I’ve noticed occasional mention of upgrade specials SonicFoundry has offered. Is there a way to find out about these? Is there some sort of marketing mailing list I should be on? Did I not check some box when I registered?

There is nothing "audio" missing in Vegas 3. It actually has more audio features than Vegas 2 had.

1) If you don't use the Video features, it's like they're not even there.
2) I never used Version 2, so i can't tell you.
3) Yes you may.

Apparently you didn't. I usually get a couple of eMails a month from Sonic Foundry listing all sorts of news and specials. I suppose a quick simple way to get on the list would be to re-register any SoFo product online and click the box that pops up.

I have both versions (2 and 3) installed and there are no problems. I left Ver2 on as I went to 3 just in case, but now I never run ver2. Ver3 has better overall audio performance though I'd be hard pressed to specifically quantify the difference. It's just more stable, seems to sync better, and is generally snappier feeling (IMHO).

VV3 does have improved audio sync over VA2...

WHY ISN'T (AT LEAST) THIS FUNCTIONALITY (read: fix) AVILABLE FREE TO VA2 OWNERS????

Full upper managment reorg I'm afraid is what MAY save ya. Bring the old SF back - the one who thrived on quality, keeping technology current, and most of all, excellent customer relations (knowledge of updates vs. upgrades).
Get out of the nickel and dime game FAST!!!

That said. I would go Sonar LarryP if you know you won't be diving into Video work.
You have more options (WDM or MME usage), decent soft synth support, and important fixes to problems are USUALLY free via a patch.

They way SF has chosen to treat it's customers and do business...
The choice is easy.

Just calling it like it is in hopes SOMEBODY there wakes up and does something about it!!!

I have completed three sessions of live recording choirs and large
bands using 4 tracks so far with vv3 and a delta 1010. Tracks have
been started, paused and then restarted for over an hour for each
recording. It has worked great with the dry recordings and you can burn a CD directly from the program as a red book master. I can attest to solid program operation while recording. I feel it is a program that I can count on to deliver a quality audio recording. I have yet to have the program crash or have problems that could not be adjusted quickly. I have not found any other
audio mult-track recording program with this working quality.
