too many titles problem:

Hi, I face the problem of having too many titles on my DVD-A3 Project.

it says:
"The project has too many titles that use unique media. 99 is the maximum number titles using unique media files."

But what does DVDA want to tell me?

What is a title?
According to page 51 in the user manual, a title is a video, a music compilation, or a picture compilation.
But is an imported graphic (used as a button) also a title?
Are Background images (or movies) for menues titles???

If yes, I am in deep deep trouble, because I am working on a project with a lot of short videos, that need to be addressed separately many pictures and buttons,

I think I cannot work with music compilations, or chapter markers in video files, as DVDA suggests, because I need to address those separately. So if I make a music compilation (or chapter markers), I cannot only play one single chapter and return to the menu afterwards, or is this possible somehow?

Does anybody have any ideas how I can deal with this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Wolfgang

Having done several hours of searching, I know found the following thread:
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=22&MessageID=415075

This gives me great relief, but still I have a question:
how can I define in and out points for every single button, as suggested?

Am I getting something wrong here?

Basically any piece of media that plays -- except for the buttons and backgrounds -- is going to be encoded as a chapter. Each playlist or compilation is going to be encoded as a title. In addition, if you simply place media -- stills or video -- in the project list on the left of the screen, they each get encoded as a title. The DVD specification only allows 99 chapters in a title (actually you can have more, but you won't be able to navigate between chapters beyond the 99th one), and only allows 99 titles. This is not a DVDA restriction, but a restriction of the actual specification itself.

Solution is usually to place the media from the project list into a series of music compilations (that's what I'd recommend). Other people may have other recommendations, if that doesn't work.

Launch DVDA help. Select the Index tab, type in "Set In" (without the quotes) and double click on the topic.

Thanks guys,
some more time in this forum gave me the answer. I have to import every videoclip several times, and set the in and out point for every instance of the videoclip. DVDA is clever enough to use only one videoclip on the final DVD, so there isn´t any additional data.

I´m so glad, I can´t tell you...

Thanks again,
Wolfgang

OK, it was too early.
I can´t get the problem. It must have to do with my understanding of the word "titles".

My problem seemed to be solved. I have now imported one huge mpeg file several times into my project (so they are actually shown under the folder-tree view). For each, I have set the in and out point. Acutally I now have only 6 videoclips in the project. More are to come, but not yet in there.

But I have a large number of submenues, with graphics as buttons and graphics as background media (so many chapters if I´ve got you right).

Everything seemed to work fine. But that was only for the first two languages. Then I added the menu for the third language, and made a test, preparing the menu, and - again I have the error:

"The project has too many titles that use unique media. 99 is the maximum number titles using unique media files."

But I only have 6 instances of one single mpeg file and all these submenus.

When I prepared the DVD after the first two languages, I only had 3 VTS in the Video_TS folder, and if I understand it right, they stand for the titles.

So I actually think: the only thing I may have, is too many chapters per title. But: how can I get every single language (menu) a different title, so that I don´t run out of available chapters?

Is anybody able to help???

Thanks in advance,
Wolfgang

Every time you add a language, it doesn't re-use the video. Your project size will grow, and the number of titles will increase. If you want to have it only use the video once, all ALL the languages to EVERY instance. You can then use your navigation system to only "expose" those languages that you want for that particular part of the DVD.

John,
thank you for your answer. But somehow I don´t understand your point.
How can I use the navigation system to expose the languages?

Thanks for your help!!!
