Too Sharp Too Fuzzy

Getting the school play project finalized - during camera panning movment I get some serious sharply jagged edges - I guess one could apply some softening filter there - any recommondations?
Also the text blocks are very fuzzy. Just white static text with a Blach edge but seriously unsharp. I am rendering out to PAL DVD mpeg2.

The jaggy edges are interlacing artifacts and you could blur or use DVMaker to remove them. Is your material DV or HDV? Are you rendering using "good" or "best"?

What bitrate etc are you encoding at or more to the point which mpeg-2 template?
How are you viewing the DVD?

Are you currently watching the video on a computer monitor? Interlaced video doesn't look as good on a computer monitor as it does on a regular TV.

Laurence is right. You need to encode a section to a DVD-RW or DVD+RW and view it on your TV set before you make any conclusions about jaggies. The computer monitor is USELESS for making these determinations and should NEVER be used.

Also, if you used a high shutter speed, you may be seeing some artifacts related to that when you pan. Nothing you can do, that I know of, if you don't like that look. However, Laurence is probably correct, and your video will look fine on a TV.
