Track Configuration Question

I'm a little confused with the audio track configuration settings for Vegas Pro 16 (build 361). It seems that you can only have stereo or 5.1 surround tracks. This seems odd to me. How do you set up mono tracks for dialogue? Why can't I have Mono or Stereo tracks that I can send to Mono, Stereo or Surround group busses? Can someone here tell me how to set this up, as I'm not finding these options in the settings page.

Did you ever read the manual and tried to rightclick f.i. a stereo audio event or drag with a surround track a mono file to one of the 5 output points or maybe more to the left or the right?

Yes, I'm reading the manual. I did the right click to assign output on a mono channel and all of the options were grayed out. The stereo track that I dragged in allowed me several stereo out options. But it's confusing to look over at any channel and seeing only surround channels. In Nuendo and DaVinci Resolve, the channel itself is mono or stereo or whatever and then you buss it however you want. With regard to that mono track, I'd be panning directly in the surround track, which is okay. It just makes it more difficult to identify it as such at a glance.

I'm not working on a project now. I have some free time and I'm just importing random files to get the hang of how this works.

@KeyplayerG

Not sure where this is at ,....Vegas Menu : File-->Properties-->Audio Tab , set to 5.1 or Stereo , just to get started . If going with 5.1 Project . then Every audio track is 5.1 surround . Right click on the Surround Panner to make the track and LFE track . For Center channel Mono , drop the mono clip onto the 5.1 audio track , then in the Surround panner , click on each speaker icon to enable only the Center Channel . for LFE , might need to make multiple tracks to drop all tracks that might have low frequencies , to make sure all low stuff will make it to the LFE channel . Right on the surround panner to choolse LFE for that track . here is a pic of how I layout Vegas 14 . To make an audio track 360 panning , keep all speaker icons Enabled in the Surround Panner .
