Track Motion 3D spin

smashguy37 wrote on 9/14/2008, 2:13 PM
I'm trying to get a spinning logo using track motion and I can get the logo to spin around. I have a keyframe at the beginning, one in the middle (for the reverse view when it's completely spun around) and a keyframe at the end to make it spin back to the original position. My problem is that when it gets to the middle it slows down...then starts the spin again to go back to the original position. So basically it's not one fluid motion.

I'm also trying to get the logo to "pop" out (not a drop shadow...but like the "extrude" option in LiveType", basically so it's not a flat 2d object. How do I do this in Vegas? I can't find any way to do it.

Alright, I believe "3D extrude" is the effect I'm looking for. Is there any software out there that does...free or cheap? And I think I figured out my first issue by adjusting the smoothness slider to 0.

I'm betting you could get the same look of spinning by taking the pan/crop & flipping the whole logo horizontally. :D But with 3d motion make sure it goes from 0-180-359. It resets 360 back to 0 which makes it go backwards Turn the keyframe smoothness to "linear". Or to "0" will work too,

for the text the best you'll be able to do in vegas is a bump map. A 3d app would do 3d text better (blender is free & once you read a text tutorial & rendering tutorial it's pretty easy to pop those out).

Happy, you're sorta right about that spin thing.

The actual answer is to just use the rotation setting on the left hand side, because when you grab and spin it actually spins the orientation, which will only go to 359.

Rotation can go WAY past 359, and won't give you those problems, but it has to be manipulated manually at the numbers on the left.

I'll try pan/crop, but it looks fine in track motion, however I did read something in another thread about quality loss using track motion vs. pan/crop.

I tried the deBug wax plugins, but they instantly crash Vegas (even a few years ago when I first tried them) and I'm currently playing with a demo of Bluff Titler which I used once, but I need to make an image 3D, not just text (like a .psd file or .png with a transparent background so the logo itself which is cut out, can be made 3D), and I'm not sure I can do this.

I'm going to give Blender a shot though, and bump map just seems to create a bad bevel effect.

track motion only "looses" resolution if you zoom in with it.

You might be able to do something like this in the relatively inexpensive Bluff Titler.

Vegas isn't the tool for this. Think AE. If the original was done in Illustrator and you have access to the file and it only uses vectors and they're all closed then Proanimator can extrude and spin it.

Thinking outside the square any number of cheap / free tools can use a greyscale image as a 3D height map and extrude / spin that complete with lighting and shadows and caustics. However from my feeble efforts using Bryce to do this the results aren't that easy to obtain. I could easily make mountains out of text resplendant with all manner of foliage but anything that I'd really want to use seriously escaped my limited attention span.

I'm trying to re-create the logo of the company I work for, but I don't know what they originally used to make it. I think they had a guy who was in to that sort of stuff working for them a few years back and he made it. It's pretty old school looking now, but I'm trying to see if I can make a better version since a coworker has an HD project he's working on, and the original 720x480 logo obviously is way too small for HD.

Is there any tutorial on how to do this in Bluff Titler? I haven't found anything useful and the program itself is slightly confusing and limited. Blender seems good, but I don't have the patience to sit there and figure out it's bezier curves. I don't know AE unfortunately, I wish I did.

wanna post the logo/e-mail/pm me? I'll help getting it in 3d via blender or bryce. I'm not a wiz, but I have figured out how to get objects in 3d. Even if it's a flat 2d image that's fine. I've gotten pretty good making 2d logo's in to vector images.
