track motion confusion

Howdy,
I have a text media that I want to scroll right to left, so I place a default keyframe and then a keyframe so that the text is just off the screen on the right and then do the opposite for the end of the clip. For some reason the media enters slowly, then speeds up in the middle and then slows down again when exiting the screen. What could cause this?

Thanks Tor, but I tried smooth, linear, fast etc. Linear seems to be the best but it still does it.

Set the Smoothness control to 0 % for each keyframe. It defaults to 100 %.

What does smoothness at 0% mean and what does smoothness at 100% mean in terms of how it affects the movement.

Say you were going to move from 0 to 10 in 10 seconds. At the beginning you would immediately start out with a jerk and go 1 each second. When you get to the end you'll come to an instant halt. This is smoothness set at 0%. If you set the smoothness higher it softens the motion so you'll start out gradually, pick up speed, be going the fastest at 5, then gradually slow down and come to a gentle rest at 10. Smoothness makes the motion a lot less jarring and a lot more fluid. The problem is that sometimes too much smoothness overshoots the mark and then has to move back.

However, Randy,
I'd think pan/crop would be a better choice than track motion for the effect you decribed. The smoothness thing would be more or less the same, though.

Maybe (probably) I'm doing something wrong, but whenever I use pan/crop on certain things, the sides get chopped off. I have wondered why, but with my lack of patience, just used the track motion when it does happen. Out of curiosity though, why would it be any better?

Yet another way for sideways scrolls is to use the Text Placement tab and keyframes. Works well, especially for long "tickertape" messages.

I have also had problems with sides getting cut off with Pan/Crop - I think it's to do with those icons on the left - size about centre and lock aspect, but I still get into a knot sometimes ...

- and I'd like the smoothness setting to automatically go to zero when selecting linear.
