Trackballs

I fancy trying a trackball, as long as it includes an easily-usable wheel for timeline zoom, and as long as it has at least 4 buttons as my current mouse does (I have thumb buttons set up for <enter> and <delete> on my mouse).

Any opinions or recommendations?

YES! The Kensington Expert Mouse. I have them on all my machines. It has four buttons and a "scroll ring" as opposed to a wheel. It takes a minor amout of getting used to, but once that happens, you'll never go back.

For what it's worth, I believe that Spot is also a big supporter of the Kensington trackball.

Not only am I a big supporter, bought every one that CompUSA had here in SLC when they were closing down.
I replace the Kensington ball (very lightweight) with a billiard ball of various number. Heavier weight means smoother track. I LOVE these things. A guy named Ron Bach turned me onto them nearly 15 years ago when we were working on "Suleman the Magnificent" and he pulled one out with a 9 ball in it. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, but his point was that carpal tunnel risk was severely minimized. I'm guessing he's right.

So if I ever visit SLC I can expect to find lots of billiard tables with incomplete sets of balls then!

Yes and never let it be said that Spot doesn't have a complete set. After all, he jumps out of perfectly good airplanes.

John, you crack me up! I'm not sure how to take that, but yeah...I've got a complete set, they're just all in Trackball housings. :-)
Going for a speed record this summer, maybe I can get some of the forum members to pledge $$ to charity if I can get my fat a$$ over 300mph?
Hope to see you at the Vegas party this year in Las Vegas. Bigger, badder, and more food than last year. And I promise, no media people talking for 20 mins on weird stuff. We've got a GREAT lineup for the night. Hell, I'll bet we even impress Bob.

Unfortunately I will not be at NAB this year due to other commitments but I'll sure be there in spirit. Of course that could change at the last minute :)
If I don't make it this year I'll certainly be there in '09 and one thing I'll be doing then is to actually go see America. 4 trips to the USA and I've only been in 3 states and not seen much of them.

Bob.
