Transcode to 422 Question

My consumer Sony camera records in AVCHD 1920x1080x12, interlaced, as it's highest resolution. If I trancode to XDCAM 422 for editing, which of the templates should I use? There are basically 3 choices for 422 at 1920x1080...60i, 50i, and 24p. I want to have the smoothest editing experience as possible, of course, but I also want my final render to be of the best quality as possible, of course. I will be making the final render to burn to DVD or BluRay. I am new to intermediate/proxy formats...just trying to learn. Thanks!

If your camera was recording in 60i then use the same for 422.
In general and to keep things simple match frame rates.

Thank you! I think it is beginning to make sense. Whereas my camera's output is 29.970 fps, I would match that with 60i because 29.97 x 2 is close to 60, right? So, 50i would more closely match a 25 fps camera? Is that a PAL vs NTSC thing?

In HD there's no PAL / NTSC technically speaking as the frame size is the same. The boffins prefer the term Region50 and Region60.

Regardless, yes if you're in PAL / Region50 and your camera is therefore shooting 50i (50 fields per second which is 25 fps) then yes, use 50i. If your camera is shooting 25p i.e. 25 progressive frame per second Vegas might not provide a preset for this but it's a doodle to create one and save it as such. That's what I've done in the past.
