Hi everybody. I am from across the pond in little old England and your fantastic Vegas is only just starting to get people excited over here. I have a chance to buy an allready registered copy of Vegas 5 + DVD. However, the seller says he can contact Sony and transfer the registration to my name. Is this possible ? or is he just winding me up ? Peter

Yes, that is possible. He just has to inform customer service that the registration number in his name is now to be assigned to your name and address. They will then send YOU a new registration number.

(typing my long-winded version while Mr. Troxel was giving the short response...)

Until somebody pops in with a definitive answer, I'll proffer a big "maybe." I've read that Sony will, indeed, permit re-registration to a new user, under the appropriate provisos regarding the removal of the software from the the original owner's system, etc. I believe I've also read that the new owner won't qualify for future reduced-price upgrade offers, thought.

That said, I don't know if there are prohibitive circumstances for Vegas outside the USA, especially if this would be an "international" transfer of ownership.

At any rate, kudos to Sony for permitting this on at least some level. It's a great way to pass on previous versions and create enthusiasm for their products.

I sold/transfered my copy of Vegas 3 LE to someome (I upgraded to V4 from it). Sony told me that the LE copy could not be upgraded anymore, but my (v4) could still be. So, with you buying a copy that hasn't been used for an upgrade, it will be no problem to buy & upgrade later.
