Transistions in Vegas Video 4 HELP PLEASE

When I attempt to drag the transistion--a simple dissolve --from the preset it doesn't work. My transition is checked. Is there another setting I should have somewhere or a particular button selected?

Try dragging the clips so that they overlap more. You will see a blue X where they overlap. Then drag the transition onto the X.

Try using the "Insert" funtion...from the cursor.
