Transition ?

I'm trying to transition from one event to another and have the 2nd event not begin playing until the transition is through. I envision using the first frame of the 2nd event (without any audio) as a still until the transition ends and then begin playback at the first frame w/the audio. I can't quite figure out how to do this (obvously a newb). I've searched to no avail, any suggestions?
thnx

create a still from the first frame of that second event (from the preview window - set full/best quality and click the button to save the frame). Place that back on the timeline between event 1 and event 2. make the transition the way you want (stretch the simgle frame (now a still) to the length you want)... overlap event1 with the still. There you go...

My method would be to set the in point of the 2nd event to the frame you want. Zoom the timeline in so you can see frame increments (not necessesary, but it helps).

Select the event, then click on the edge of the event so the cursor is right at the start. Hit Alt/Right arrow to move cursor one frame. Hit S to split the event.

Right-click the single frame and add a velocity envelope and set it to zero by right-clicking on the little green box at the start of the velocity line and Set to 0. Now you can drag the frame out for whatever duration you want and the adjacent event will start on the next frame.

That explanation seems pretty long, but in practice it takes about 12 seconds.

Thanks to you both, much appreciated, worked like a charm!
It continually blows my mind how much is possible and how many different ways there are to do it in V4. Of course the only thing I have to compare it to is Pinnacle Studio, which probably isn't fair to Studio.
