Transitions

Fairly new to Vegas and looking for help with transitions. The Sony Vegas 12.0 comes with a clock wipe transition. I am looking to be able to start the transition at another spot instead of "12:00" but it does not have the functionality to adjust (or at least I don't see where it is done). I was hoping to start the clock wipe at, say, "3:00".

Is there a way to change this or some "trick" that more experienced editors can do to work around the limitation? Otherwise, and more likely, is there a 3rd party transition pack that anyone has purchased which has basic transitions like this that are adjustable?

Thanks in advance.

Insert a Transition Envelop. Using this you can determine just where a transition starts, where it continues inwards or even . . .reverses!

For your 3 o'clock I added 2 Points at 25%.

Okay I got into the transition progress envelopes and figured out how to start the clock wipe at "3:00" thanks to Grazie's tip. However, I may not have explained thoroughly what I was trying to do. I want to have the transition start at 3:00 but it needs to make a full revolution and complete at 3:00, much like the standard clock wipe starts at noon and ends at noon. When I followed the instructions, I effectively got 75% of a transition (started at 25% and ended at 100%). I want a new image to begin appearing at the start of the transition and to display fully at the end.

Is there a way using envelopes or other means to have a full clock wipe with the start and end points at 3:00 or something other than 12:00?

Thanks a lot

It sounds like you may have to use the gradient wipe transition and create your own gradient in Photoshop using the angle gradient tool.

You could do a standard 12-12 clock transition from black to white and render this to a new video file. Now load that new file into a track above the others and use it as a mask. Pan/Crop's rotation will let you rotate it to any desired angle. You'd have to learn a bit about compositing, but it worth it and rewarding.

This is a little tutorial i made for the technique years ago ... http://www.rchv.com/transitions/vegas-transition-screen-6-small.jpg

Thnaks Chienworks, I think I will give this technique a try because it could help with other future tasks.

Here's a gradient that will make a clock wipe transition from 3 o'clock to 3 o'clock:

To soften the edge use the Gradient blur slider in the Gradient Transition Window.

Thanks much Peter! I will load it tomorrow and hopefully this will handle the problem. Much appreciated.
