Transitions: Why the Black background during transition

During the actual transition itself, their is always the black background. For example, when you use the window blinds, if there are 5 sections, there are also 5 sections of black. I want the foreground to be the first video, and while it changes, the second video should be behnd it, not what I'm getting. How do I change this. Pinnacle studio has this stuff built in, but I can't figure out how to do it here. Please help if you can.

First you might want to make sure that you have the two clips overlapping, there will be a crossfade automatically inserted, with an 'x' showing the overlapping parts. Just drag the transition there. If you've done that i don't know what your problem might be.

Some of the transitions (3D Windows Blinds, for example) are transparent in certain sections. If you have tracks beneath the track with the transition, they will show through. The idea with 3D Window Blinds is that that one video is on the front of the "slat" and one is on the back. As it flips around, you see them go by.

If the effect you're looking for is the incoming clip to show through, use two tracks and put the 3D Window Blinds on the end of the outgoing event. Vegas lets you have transitions into and out of an event, to "nothing", which will show through the track below.

Hmmmmm, I will try that right now, you have explained it very nicely. If I have two clips on the timeline in a row, there is only one tiny little spot that I am able to drag the trans. to and let it go. If I drop it at the end of the first clip, it works but only for a fraction of a second, so I attempt to drag the length of the trans. to about 2 seconds(wondering if there is a way to make this a default), after I do this, all it does is overlap the second clip and cuts off whatever portion of the clip I have covered. I would like it to sort of "melt" into the next clip, (Studio 8 fades one out as the other is coming in which is what I want, but I also want more control that VV has) just have to get it to work. I appreciate the fast responses guys! Thanks. Anybody out there with photography questions, feel free to ask. David

Ok, I got the black bars out of there, now, do I need each audio track to be separate for the sound to fade also?

Ok, that thing about overlapping works now, problem was before I didnt have the audio on separate tracks and it was cutting off. Again, thanks for the quick help, this is the nicest forum I have ever seen, lotsa info in those past posts...
