Transparency of still pics

I want to create/modify images in Paint Shop Pro 9 with transparent backgrounds and import them into VMS to use as titles.

Can it be done? How? Does the picture format (e.g., JPG, GIF, TIF) make a difference and if it does, which format works?

A .png (Portable Network Graphic) file with transparency works great... I would imagine Paint Shop Pro 9 can create them...

Yes, it makes a difference. Produce the title that is to be superposed, on say a background, on a transparent screen in Paint Shop Pro (I assume it has this possibility; I use Adobe Photoshop Elements for this work) then save it as a .gif file. Then you can add the frame on a video track of the timeline above a moving or still background.
