Trial 9.0e Build 1147-crashes during VST dll load

I'm a VMS 10 Platinum user, but, I thought I'd try Vegas Pro to see if the pro version would handle a particular video that I'm working on any better/differently.

I could not even instantiate the program. During the initial program set-up instantiation, Vegas Pro needs to load all of my VST plug-ins. But, Vegas Pro crashes every single time, each time a different plug-in.

VMS 10 Platinum does exactly the same load-thing without a hitch.

I un-installed the "Pro" version and trashed it.

Because some VST plug-ins do not work with Vegas Pro, the usual recommendation is to move your existing ones to a new folder, install Pro 9 and then move them back in after it's up and running.

VST plugins have to be tested carefully with each program you use them for. I have vst's that work in vegas but crash adobe audition... and visa versa.

It comes very close to impossible to write a vst that universally fits EVERY program.

wow, you're pretty quick to write pro off. maybe you should stick with vsm 10....

i, (like many others here no doubt), discovered the hard way that some vst plugins are incompatible with vegas. but to 'trash' a program even before investigating what might be the problem doesn't bode well for your adoption of more complex software.

and to write of your 'trashing' on the vegas pro forum without first asking what the matter might be seems a bit 'horse before the carriage'....

You may have a point there. I may have been a bit hasty.

But, Sony, with ACID, all of there plug-ins designed for VST & Vegas "Pro" ?....c'mon, their "Pro" version should be at the top of the line.100%.All the VST's load perfectly in Cubase 5 and in Vegas Movie Studio 9 & 10 Platinum.

I tried installing, un-installing, un-installing VMS 10, then installing Vegas Pro again with no luck at all. So, I gave up. Sorry.

I will try again at a later date with the next release. And yes, I will stick with VMS 10 for now.

hi 88k,

don't be disheartened, we're here to help.

it's not vms you should be uninstalling, but your vst's.

i think some one suggested simply renaming the vst folder, then, once you have pro up and running, start bring them back in one by one till one stuffs up!

it would be nice if there was a list somewhere of 'bad' pro vst's, but until there is, you've got to do your own investigative work.

persist, i'm sure you'll appreciate pro over vms,

good luck

The problem is that I'm a music composer by profession and the VST Plug-ins are the most important tools of my trade. So, I won't be un-installing them anytime soon.

The Vegas Pro crash occurs with different VST's and not always the same ones.
For example, the first time it crashed it was Steinberg's The Grand that crashed it. On the next instantiation, The Grand passed through and it was Stylus RMX that crashed it. Next, it wasn't Stylus RMX it was Real Strat....and so on.

To be more precise, the program "hangs" exactly at the moment that it is trying to laod a specific VST plug-in, so, it is easy to identify which one it is. If it was the same one each time, it would be an easy fix.

Let's not forget that VMS10 is brand new while Vegas Pro 9 is better than a year old now. That may have something to do with it.

Maybe it was more my frustration with just trying to boot the program that may have been doing the talking.
And, coming from a professional audio background, my frustration was compounded by not being able to even try it. Especially after reading this thread :
