tricks to open a failing VEG?

wwjd wrote on 7/25/2020, 3:29 PM

VP 17 (whatever the latest version is) that which used to open no longer does. I go through many VST audio plugins since I last opened it a few months back. So figured, that confused it. So did all the usual cleaning.

My system is ALWAYS on latest Windows patches. ALWAYS on latest Nvideo STUDIO driver.

I've done FULL RESET all settings on Vegas,
tried the ctrl-shift start cleanup,
turned off GPU processing on video preferences,
deleted all caches,
deleted all prerendered videos,
reset VST plugins scanned (doesn't seem to hang on these when Vegas loads),
tried a few previous versions,
have NOT tried a full reinstall of VP17,
I've rebooted, restarted, cleaned Windows 10, did a full power off bounce...

what am I missing? System runs everything else perfect, zero crashes any other programs.

Haven't missed much there. Any possibility of trying to open it using another computer?

good idea.

VP17 Opens, just the VEG files don't. I don't think I made that clear. Just tried some others, and same explosion while opening. All used to work fine. Trying a reinstall of 17, but now my WIN10 is updating, so gonna wait on that.

If that still fails, will try on laptop, but none of my drives are set for all that.

complete clean reinstall opens, but fails to load any VEG files. more ideas?

3 suggestions:

1/ When uninstalling, was the full uninstall process enacted as per:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/

Then before reinstalling, run a registry clean with something like CCleaner.

2/ Do any of the .veg.bak project files open?

3/ Temporarily rename the VST folder/s where the audio plugins are located. If .veg then opens (but probably with a 'missing FX' window), at least you'll then know that the culprit is one of the VST plugins and you can load them back into a new VST folder with the original folder name until the pesky VST plugin creates the problem again.

Fixed it. By doing nothing that made any sense.

Yes, I use CCleaner often. I used REVO to uninstall it. the program opens great, just loading VEG fails.

So, my fix? I don't know. Since 17 opens fine, I tried loading files from 15. no go. went back to 15 and started loading projects from the past moving forward until I go to the new stuff where it said "File from newer version, cant open". Opened 17, tried loading old 15 files, they loaded with the random "PLUGIN MIssing" because VSTs. but at least it didn't keep blowing up. Then loaded more 15 files, and they kept loading. Tried some older 17 files and they loaded - I had not reenabled my audio VSTs yet. Loaded more 17 files and they all loaded to the newest all of a sudden. The same one that wasn't loading a few minutes earlier. Readded all my audio vsts and everything still working fine. :(

The only hardware change I tried was removing my OverClock that I have been running - WITH VEGAS 17 - since I got the computer 6 years ago. AND, after removing the OC, 17 was still not loading 17 veg files anyway. I am 100% positive and can turn on my OC again and not affect a darn thing.

Maybe loading things in 15 fixed some creepy cache somewhere, I don't know, and that makes no sense.

This is the only software that crashes on my system ever. :(

Not very long ago I had a project that would open. Solution? Remove the Stabilizer plug-in and put it back... Read here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/project-not-opening-crash-at-42-loading--120650/

adimatis, yes, an "OPEN SANS PLUGINS" would be a great option. I still don't know why failed then later just started working, which means, it WILL happen again. I am not cool with this.
