I've never heard of trimming a video by pixel. (You can, of course, work at the pixel level on photos -- but not in a video editor.)

Where have you seen this referenced?

Steve,

For example, see p9

Ahhhhhhhh.

What they're talking about is one pixel on the editing screen along the timeline. This measurement isn't any particular amount of time, but is dependent upon the zoom level of the timeline. If you're zoomed way out on a long project, a "pixel" could be many frames, many seconds, even a minute or more. If you're zoomed in very close then a pixel might be only a tiny portion of a frame. In the latter case, of course, trim by pixel won't really allow you to meaningfully trim video events in smaller than frame increments.

All it means is that when you perform any "by pixel" movement or operation, it uses whatever amount of time is currently represented by one pixel width of the timeline at the current zoom level.

Thank you!
It seems like an odd function, disconnected from most timeline functionality, but I'm not a very experienced editor yet.
