Trim/Crop files

craig-wollman wrote on 5/7/2018, 8:38 AM

I'm using Sound Forge 9.0 on a PC.

I'd like to add .04 s to the beginning of a bunch of IVR files and .01 to the end. It would take a long time to do it by hand to each file.I found the trim/crop tool that I can use in the batch converter but I can't see how to add silence to each end of the file, only a fadein/fadeout that doesn't actually add silence. Any suggestions?

If nobody comes up with a solution here, try posting your question on the official Sound Forge forum.

Nick, oddly enough, I tried finding that and couldn't. As a matter of fact, most of the forums seem old and don't have posts in 2018. Maybe I'm just in the wrong place. Frankly, I haven't had much luck with support since Magix took over. My impression of them is not good.

I was just able to figure out this issue using a combination of Auto Trim/Crop and Insert Silence in a batch process.

...but thanks for the link. I will save it for future questions.

It's quite a new forum. It should gain in popularity now that MAGIX have updated Sound Forge and ACID with their own new versions, and it will become easier to find in search as more backlinks to it appear on the net.

I would use Sound Forge Pro's "Batch processor" (Tools menu) with the "Insert silence" process (Insert menu) which has the option to insert silence at the head, cursor, or tail of a file. Adjust the pertinent parameters and save as two presets. Add desired files to the BC add the Insert Silence w/ pre-sets and process... done.

A Sound Forge script could also be written to do this by pasting in silence or 'room tone. Writing scripts is not my area of expertise.

Thanks rraud, as I mentioned, that's what I came up with to solve the problem. I appreciate your response.
