Trimmer preview better than Editing Preview

What is up with this? I can playback a HDV clip full speed and looks like the "Best" settings on the preview quality when in timeline.

Now, I can drop the preview resolution to preview auto and view at full rate..... which is fine, BUT..............

Why is the trimmer preview better than the editing preview? Is there a setting I can do to make the timeline preview like the trimmer preview?

Because the Trimmer window, like the Explorer window, is unbuffered, and doesn't rely on the settings of the Preview window.

Thanks... is there a way to make the timeline unbuffered then? And why would it need to be buffered?

No, there is no way to make the timeline unbuffered, and you want it buffered unless you want lots of crashes and memory errors.

You can try to reduce the size of the Dynamic RAM Preview - it sometimes provide better playback.

The trimmer doesn't have nearly as much to do. No interpolation to speak of so I think it's pretty much just like setting the preview window at "Preview" quality. And if you go find the signal flow diagram in the Vegas online help you'll see that a lot goes on when video is played from the timeline. Very little has to happen when playing from the trimmer.
