Trimmer Still in Version 2

This is probably documented in the V2.0 manual (I hate having to read manuals), but I seen several posts complaining of the Trimmer not being available in V2.0 like it was in V1.0. The Trimmer IS still in V2.0, but you have to access it differently.

While it doesn't automatically show up as a tab, if you right-click the un-labeled grey tab in the upper left hand corner of the Media Pool window (at the cross-section of media column titles and rows), a pop-up menu presents itself. The first menu option is "Open in Trimmer". If you select that option, EVERYTHING in the Media Pool will open in the Trimmer. You can then switch the current media displayed in the Trimmer from the pull-down menu at the top of the Trimmer window. Until you close it, the Trimmer tab will now remain visible just like Media Pool, Explorer, Video FX, etc. The Trimmer appears to work just as many of us have come to know and love.

I hope SF doesn't plan on removing the Trimmer feature from Vegas Video in the next upgrade. I was so pleased with VideoFactory V1.0 that I two weeks later when VF 2.0 came out I immediately upgraded. Because I was so overwhelmed with the capability in VF 2.0, I decided that I HAD to have Vegas Video. While Vegas Video is certainly more full featured, currently VideoFactory has a much more user-friendly interface. Specifically the demo feature of viewing Transitions, Video FX, and Text & Backdrops, is MUCH better in VF 2.0 than Vegas Video. I miss the Play from Beginning button on the Transport Bar which was taken out of VF2.0, and in any future version of VideoFactory or Vegas Video, I hope they make the Trimmer feature a constantly accessable feature from the tab, just like in VF 1.0 and the current Vegas Video. Thanx for letting me vent; great products Sonic Foundry!

Boy, that's doing a pretty good job of hiding the trimmer. LOL! I hardly ever used it, so I didn't miss it.

Anybody find any "easter eggs" in Video Factory?
Not responsible for newbies asking about what they are.

I must be really dense today.

I can't find the correct spot to click on to get to the Trimmer. I've right-clicked all over the Media Pool tab and the grey area to the left of the tab.

Is it near the Media Pool icon on the Media Pool tab?

I assume there should be clips visible in the Media Pool area before right-clicking.

Could you repeat the directions in other words? I'd really like to find the Trimmer.

More searching for Trimmer info:

If I right-click in the grey EMPTY Media Pool window, I can see the menu which lists "Open in Trimmer", "Open in Viscosity", "Explore Containing Folder", etc. etc. but all the selections are greyed out.

If I place a clip(s) into the Media Pool window and then right click on the grey area, I don't see the "Open in Trimmer" or "Open in Viscosity" choices. The only visible choices are "Explore Containing Folder", etc.

Can you repeat the cordinates again in other language?

Also, you mention clicking the "un-labeled grey tab" in the Media Pool window. I'm not sure where that unlabled grey tab is.

Thanks

Place two or three clips in the Media Pool.

The left column in Media Pool is the Media number (1,2,3,4, etc). The First Row in Media Pool is Media attribute titles (type media, size, modified date, etc).

Above the numbers in the left column and left of the attribute titles is a small box with no title in it. Right-click that box and it should:
1. High-light all media in the Media Pool.
2. Present a dialog box; the first option in the dialog box is "Open in Trimmer".

Please let me know if this works; I hope this is not just something that works only on my machine.

It works!!!

The key is that the Views Icon must be clicked on and the view changed to Detailed View. Then the blank tab is displayed and the Trimmer is accessible exacly as you described. Your trick does not work if the List or Thumbnail view is selected. I had been using the Thumbnail view.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and explain.

Great!

Now how do we get SF to keep the Trimmer in future updates? Any SF staff monitoring this thread? Were we supposed to know about this Trimmer functionality in V2.0 or was the Trimmer supposed to slowly fade into oblivion?
