Trimmer Updating Timeline Event with Ripple Move

Hello,

Getting to grips with the interface.

If I have a project with multiple events say on a video track with grouped audio I want to right click and edit in the trimmer.

If I trim the event how do I then replace the original event with the new event and automatically move the events to the right to fill the time gap.

Regards, Paul

Although it's named the Trimmer, it's not for trimming existing events, it's for trimming and creating new events. Trimming is done on the main timeline. To delete empty time, double-click in the empty area and press Delete (with Ripple mode turned on).

It does need to be done on the timeline, but you need to be careful here, especially if you have more than 1 track.

SonicDennis is correct in his description of deleting empty space. That will give you a very nice straight cut. What happens if you need an overlap for a transition between the clip you are inserting and the clip(S) you are moving back? What happens if you need to make space (insert) that clip and you have 3 or 4 video & audio tracks?

After much frustration, the answer for me is to use the select tool (select all clips/tracks down the timeline) then drag more space than is needed. Repeat the process to drag the clips back. And yes, you can overlap if you need that transition.
