Trimmer what the F mode am I stuck in?

epirb wrote on 7/12/2004, 3:52 PM
First of all I never use the trimmer, but I have a clip I wanted to make subclips from and thought I'd give it a try in the trimmer so I can name them on the fly. not having to rename them like you do when crating them on the time line.
I dont know what I did but when I either clicked the I for in point or the O for an out point the cursor line stays where it is then moving the mouse around just moves the regoin eiather forwards or backwarc of that line. Even if i move out of the trimmer window it stays the same, and I cant get a std cursor back. just the damn CURSE-r with the two headed arrow.
Am I doing something wrong? I treid right clicking, left clicking, double clicking ,"I" & "O" pushing, kicking ,screaming.
It's still that way,I 'd close Vegas but I I cant even save my progress.
Help me people! someone's gotta know something. dont make me close with out saving!
aaaaaaaahhhhhhh

I'm holding the ctrl-alt-delete gun to my temple!
I swear I'll do it.
Iknow its only been 35 mins but , my fellow Vegonite's this is a 911 !

Right clicking should get you out of it. The first left-click starts this “sticky cursor/region” thingy and a right-click should end it. I agree its very annoying.

something musta glitched I tried that but no luck.
so I pulled the trigger and rebooted.
I think I'll stay away from the Trim-Reaper and stick to subclipping from the timeline.
Thanks for the Info though J.R. ,but I 'll wait till the Post Trimmer Stress Syndrome syptoms subside.(shake, shake ,twitch)

Did Vegas reload the restored veg? In otherwords, the backup of what was there before you rebooted?

In the Trimmer, place the cursor where you want to start, hold down left mouse and drag to where you want to finish.

A shaded region is created. If you want to adjust this, drag either left or right boundary.

When satisfied, right click in the region and create subclip.

Thanks for the posts Spot , no I didnt get the "last session did not close ...do you want to restore" message. I dont know why maybe because I had just opened up that veg shortly before and had done a few qiuck edits before I entered the "trimmer triangle".Or because I shut down windows and restarted.(I guess I could of just shut down Vegas from the task manager, but frustration took over all sense of reason,i guess.
Peter,I had actually done one subclip extraction from the trimmer, that way, then "it" happened.
I just reopened my prevoius veg and began again.
Gotta get in the habit of using My Neon quicksave/back up icon more often.
Grazie, I think if the Trim-Reaper had a Razor tool like Premier
the Icon would be a Sickle !

I think this is a bug folks. I get the same thing. When I try to place the cursor in the trimmer nothing happens. When I drag left or right the cursor appears and is stuck to the pointer creating a region. If I right click it does stop but this is not tight.

The reason I think it is a bug is because sometimes it operates as expected. I click in the trimmer and the cursor goes there. Then I can use the arrow keys to go left or right.

If it is not a bug then I would really like to know how to shut this behaviour off. It drives me crazy not knowing what is going to happen when I click on a video clip in the trimmer. Is the cursor going to mover there or is it going to stick in region select mode?

yo epirb -
don't despair - and don't give up on one of the greatest new tools in Vegas.

I've also had the sticky trimmer thingy and it sucks - I hope someone smarter than me can definitely tell you how to avoid it, but meanwhile, at the bottom of Options>Preferences>General is a click box with "Allow cursor to be dragged". Try turning it on and/or off once or twice and see if that solves the sticky cursor situation.

The reason I'm saying this is because the subclip from trimmer is an incredible way of preorganizing your footage.

We make Sub-bins in the Medai Pool that relate to the footage we've shot: Interviews, sunsets, dogs, pretty girls, etc. and then "sub-clip from trimmer", all of the footage we've got, into those bins. It makes cutting a pleasure. Sometimes we put the same sub-clip into two or three different bins; maybe interviews and pretty girls.

We open the footage in Trimmer, drag the selection left to right, then type "R" which makes a region and then enter the name of the sub-clip. When the cursor sticks, we right click it to release it, but it can go days without sticking and that's heaven. The subclip automatically goes into the last bin we selected. It's very fast and boy when you've got hundreds of clips, and are looking for an interview with a pretty girl - well - who isn't?
So don't give up - you just had a bad "first try" and yes - save, save, save.

You know what? I think it may have something to do with the trimmer history. I have found that clearing the trimmer history will sometimes resolve this issue. Not every time but some times. When this doesn't work restarting Vegas straightens it out.

thanks for the xtra tips guy's, although I've been a little gun shy about going to the trim reaper again I'll give them a shot.
Vic I agree about it being a great tool for subclipping...thats basicly what I would/want to use it for.
I'm hoping, if I can get it to work when I trim, that I 'll get a Pretty girl bin too, that would be a bonus!!!!
As for the trimmer history I'll give that a shot too, but having never used the trimmer before since I upgraded to V5 , and the time that the "clip hit the fan" ! I wouldnt think the history would have much in it. But heck ,i'm gonna open a Dummy project and play around with it some more.

BTW , Vic did you install that new processor yet ? who gets to use it you or your employee's?
