If you are trimming from the timeline, you can "zoom-in" the timeline by putting your mouse pointer anywhere on the timeline and using your mouse scroll wheel. If you zoom in far enough, you'll see little notches on the bottom of the video track. Each notch represents a frame. As you trim, the last thumbnail images will show the last frame of the event.

Also, using ALT-Right Arrow or ALT-Left Arrow will let you step forward/backwards frame-by-frame regardless of how far "zoomed" you are.
