Trimming, by the numbers

Once a clip, still or transition is added to the timeline, is there a way to accurately control the length?

I'd ideally like to be able to click on a transition and designate that, say, it last exactly one second.

Even zooming in and nudging -- even using snap-to-grid -- I'm not able to get my transitions or stills to all be the same length.

Thanks.

Try using the highlighter (i.e., just left click on the timeline and drag) to highlight a region. The length of the region is displayed in the right most time readout that’s just under the timeline to the right (there are three (3) readouts above the video preview). Events will snap to the selection. So you can start from the right end of a transition and make a selection that is exactly 00:01:00 (one second) in length and then snap the left edge of the transition to that. Now your transition is exactly one second in length.

This also works for creating generated media. Create a selection the length you want. Right click the selected and select Insert Text Media and the media will fill the length of the selection.
