Trimming Video

Hi I am confused and frustrated. I am trying to trim videos in Movie Studio 10 but cannot work out how it is done efficiently. I have read the manual and gone through the tutorial and all I can see is clear reference to trimming on the timeline by dragging the edge of the video out or in. That is easy enough but I want a more accurate editing where I am able to control the in and out point exactly and cut at certain audio points in the video. I assume this is done by opening video in Trimmer window.

Once I open in this window I can not see any markers or tools to edit when you are at the point where you want to trim from or to. The only marker I can see is the yellow marker called loop region above timeline in the trimmer window. Playing with this seems to trim but is used for some sort of looping of video only There is no scissors or similar cutting symbol to indicate this is where you cut video from or to.

I played around for a long tiime with this window and somehow got a trimmed video on there but it had the video in the time line twice. One from the start untrimmed and a trimmed version. I am confused on the best and easiest way.

I do all my trimming on the timeline, haven't opened the trimmer window in years.

What i do is use the cursor to find the in/out location. I use the JKL shuttle keys to get close to the right spot, then Alt-Left&Right arrows to move frame by frame to find the exact location. Then i drag the edge of the clip towards the cursor. It will "snap" into position when it gets close to the cursor, giving you an exact trim on the frame you've selected.

You might also find Up & Down arrows helpful to zoom in closer while finding the precise location. The scroll wheel on the mouse does the same thing.

To expand a bit on Kelly's observations, you "can" cut at the audio sample level (by not quantizing to frames), but doing so will destroy frame integrity, which is not a very good thing in NLE.
