Troubles!!!!

Ok, if a dvd-r or rw is in the drive when I launch DVD-A, it states that there's no device to burn to. I just uninstalled a bunch of applications to see if this would help but it hasn't.

If I take the disc out, then open DVD-A, it shows the Plextor drive, but when I put the disc in, it just gives an error and doesn't burn anything.

I'm thinking my drive is maybe just to new sadly. Like I said before PlextorPX-708a.

I tried DVD-Lab.....didn't burn but made project. Too bad because I liked the program. It was simple but had complexity.
DVD-A, made project no burn.
Nero - burning the projects alone......worked but not good, turned 5.1 ac3 into prologic. Why go thru the trouble of mixing 5.1 in order to get stereo. The Nero AC3 2.0 plug-in fails for some reason which might be the problem.

Roxio CD/DVD creator is stated to work with my drive and does, but it's such a weak DVD program. It's the only one that has made a smooth looking DVD program though that worked. I don't think it burns vob files though or accepts ac3. It does accept DTS though, go figure. The only way I get 5.1 is using the more complicated DTS stream.....

MyDVD, nope.

Next I'm trying ReelDVD and NeoDVD(States it does work with it) but that looks too simple as well and has barely any features.

Basically all but DVD-Lab seem lame and I'm not even sure that one is going to work.

Does anyone else have this drive but get these programs to work??? Maybe it's just my DVD drive.

Well, after some more testing I found out that I can import the vob into Roxio, but I have to use the Roxio Menu's and such. If there's a way to use some other program's menu's I have not figured it out. So the cool backgrounds in DVD Lab are pointless for now. Even if I make a nice complex menu, it won't work right when I need to burn the vob file in Roxio.

DVD-Lab allowed me to make a project and actually edit the audio ts and make a true 6.1 Dolby Digital EX ac3 file though, which is cool. So when I imported it into Roxio and burned it, it did finally work.

So until DVD-A get's more drives added to it's compatibility list, I guess I just have to wait, or format my whole hard drive and hope for the best....lol Don't see why that would matter though, I keep everything pretty clean with reg cleaners and stuff.

Have you tried using imgtool classic to create an image from the DVD-A or DVDLab output and hten burn that image with dvddecrypter or Nero? Someone mentioned that as a wrok around a while back. I can't burn to DVD-R media in my plextor with DVD-A either, and others have reported the same thing. I've had reasonable success burning the DVD-A output using Nero, but I'm not doing anything fancy with audio. And of course I get the allocation failure from Nero on DVD-A generated files.

Try uninstalling the other burning software (many of which have always direct conflicts with one another). Use a Reg Cleaner utility to remove all traces of the other burning software. If you are using Windows 98 SE boot into safe mode and remove any "ghost" drivers which may be lingering and causing problems.

Yea I did uninstall everything at once point except Nero Burning Rom, but I really didn't feel that the problem lied in other software. It seems like it really just doesn't like this Plextor. And like I said, I can get a DVD to burn in Roxio. Preparing it in DVD Lab worked but I wasn't sure how to get the actual Menu's to work. I can import the main movie VOB fine though.

Just tried Adobe Encore....a bust as well. Does anyone have this drive so I can compare my horrid results on software compatibility?

Yes, I am using the Plextor 708A, and yes DVD-A won't burn to it using DVD-R media. It does burn using DVD+RW and DVD+R. I create the project using DVD-A, then burn the resulting VIDEO_TS directory using Nero 6 Express, but not 6.0.15 version (use .11 or .19) See the Plextor thread at CD-Freaks for more Nero/708A issues.

You will get a message from Nero that file reallocation failed, and then that there is a possible file read error. I've just ignored these, without seeing any problem in the DVD so far.

I've had no problems writing to the Plextor with Nero for data, video, DVD+R(W), DVD-R, CD-R, but others have (see CD-Freaks). DVD-Lab seems to create files that Nero does not complain about, but I already own DVD-A and don't see buying two authoring tools at this point.

If SoFoSo is serious about DVD burning, they're going to have to devote a lot more resources to keeping up with all the new DVD burners coming out, and provide much more frequent updates (monthly seems to be where the burning apps are)

Come on Sony, face lifts are not what is needed now.
Please review your update policies and keep the UPDATES coming out at the rate needed to keep the software UP TO DATE.
Can't you see the frustration of all those waiting.
How many workarounds are being used when we should just be clicking.
It is in your own interest.

Hey, I have the same issue with a Plextor +/- R drive. It was working last week now DVD-A no longer sees it. The drive works fine with REcord Now Max though. Never have any issues with Pioneer A03/4/5...maybe that is why they cost more than the Plextor thing.
