trying to achieve good video quality action camera.

I am using Sony Vegas Pro Version 10. I have been recording my Tuesday night hockey league games with a SJ4000 1080p action camera. It says H.264 on the box. and records in 1080p .MOV Format @ 30fps.

when i try and render my files it either winds up looking blurry, or the video is now cropped on the sides, or the file size is far greater than what the action camera recorded.

basically i am grabbing the highlights of the games and trying to put them online for everybody to see. but the renders that actually look good are obnoxious in size.. for example.. the action camera uses about 8GB for 1 hour of footage. and i keep winding up with 10 minute 10+ GB files while trying to stay at 1080p 30hz..

what am i doing wrong?

Probably the bitrate to high, but we must guess that all because you don't mention your export template and projectsettings.

i really don't know much about video editing. i was hoping there was simply a ideal setting for the particular videos this action camera records. it looks like MOV format. 1920x1080, 11844 kbps data rate. total bitrate 12356kbps 30fps, single channel audio.

are these the project settings you are referring to?

Here's one way to do it in Vegas Pro 10. The bit rates, image quality and file sizes match fairly closely.
