Trying to do a simpe edit

Hi,

I'm using Vegas Movie Studio 9.0b and I'm just trying to take a .WMV video (recorded at 720 x 480), select a small section of it and save the selection. I don't want to change the format, the quality or anything else. I just want a video exactly the same as the original but only including the small selection.

How do I do this?

Click and drag across the area you want.

Then go to "File --> Render As..."

Make sure "Render Loop Region Only" is checked. It will render just the area you selected.

I can shorten the movie and render it. The problem I am having is the produced movie is showing 2 black bars on either side, is "spuished" horizontally and the qualtiy does not seem to be as good as the original. I don't want to change anything about the movie (for now) except for the length of it.

Match your project and render properties to your source media.
Vegas does not automatically do this for you.
Search the forum, Vegas help and tutorials to find out how to do this. They are all excellent resources.

I set the project properties to "Match Media Settings". When I look at the Preview window and the thumbnails in the Project Media they both are displayed in a different aspect ratio than the original video. What am I doing wrong? Alternatively, is there a better tool that just allows me to pull out sections of a video and save them without altering anything else about the video?
