Trying to make a VCD.

I was under the impression when I bought this program that it would renfer a VCD that would play on my DVD player. So far I have had little if any luck with this thing. I have been able to make a AVI use a converter to convert to mpeg and burn the cd with nero (demo version.) 1 other question does anyone know if the full version of nero would could render an mpeg created from VF and save me one of these steps. Any help would be great.

If or not any video you burn to a CD plays on a set top DVD player is more dependent on the media you use and the particular DVD player. See details in another post I made earlier today.

The steps for making a VCD are:

1. edit your video
2. apply any finishing effects
3. render to a PAL or NTSC format depending on where you live. NTSC for the states and Japan, PAL for pretty much the rest of the world.
4. burn the CD

VF comes with a MPEG-1 template suitable for making basic VCD's.

At present VF only burns a single video. You can't add multiple videos or any menu nor can you burn to SVCD directly from VF. To burn a SVCD, add a menu, you need to go 'out of the box' meaning using software beyond VF. I still think VF is one of the best editors, so render as a AVI in VF and finish up in other software, especially if you aren't happy with the video quality which is limited by the MPEG-1 format.

Making video CD's isn't ready that hard, I've made hundreds, it just is a multiple step process. Nero is probably your best choice for burning.

Of course you will get higher quality if you use a DVD template and 'print to tape' and play the result back through your video camera connected to your TV or DVD if it accepts the input.
