Tunnel effect

How would I go about creating the effect of flying through a square tunnel where the left and right sides of the tunnel are photos? The entrance to the "tunnel" would start far off in the distance and once the "viewer" reached the opening of the tunnel they would see the photos passing by on the right and left in perspective. Imagine standing in the center of a wide road and 2 lines of cars are approaching from the same direction towards you. They finally reach you and start zooming by on either side until they all finally pass. Hope that makes sense :)

3D Track Motion will handle this very well. You'll need 4 tracks, one each for left, right, top, and bottom, multiplied by how many pictures can be seen all at once. So, if you think you need to have 6 pictures at a time visible down each wall of the tunnel you'll need 24 tracks.

Personally the idea of handling 24 tracks makes me gibber. What i'd do is create each wall as it's own separate project and render a file of it's parade of images sliding past in regular 2D. Then i'd create the final project with just 4 tracks and use those new rendered files as the 4 images. The motion would already be in place created easily in simple 2D space so no motion would be necessary in 3D. You'd merely use the 3D track motion to tilt the frames to line them up with the walls of the tunnel.

you would only need 2 the left and right side from what i understand
you dont want the top and bottom

what i would add is a spot light "bump" on the left and right so that the wall is darker in the distance and only gets brighter when in your viewing position

I've used the free version of Google SketchUp to create 3D tunnels somewhat similar to yours. It will paste .JPG images on flat or curved surfaces, and you can download any number of rather realistic cars from their Warehouse. All models uploaded to Warehouse were public domain until a few weeks ago, but now some may be protected - depending upon the author's decision.

You'd need to create a new SketchUp project for each, with a solid color background that you could key out, then make them move in Vegas (Sketchup has no true animation capabilities - except for some rather interesting models created with the free Sketchy Physics plugin, and the built-in fly-through .AVI creation).

After you get the .JPGs in place in Sketchup, you then create the tunnel fly-through .AVI for import into Vegas. http://sketchup.google.com/

The new Version 7 adds the ability to create bezier curves if you pay the $500 price, but many free plugins were available for Version 6 that would create a torus, spirals, and other difficult curved shapes. Experimenting with them all is a great way to waste time (I'm addicted). I presume that many, perhaps all, would work with the free Version 7.

There also are many instructional videos for work-arounds on YouTube and elsewhere. For example,

I like the idea of being able to have it follow a curved path. I'm actually using regular digital photos of people. The car thing was just an analogy.

Chien - Doing it your way will only give me 1 photo at a time. I think I would have to use a photo program to make one long "photo" with all the photos in it for each side and then animate through track motion.

the free version of SketchUp will make a fly-through that changes directions; just add new Scenes, as needed, then export the project to .AVI

HiddenDrive, i guess i didn't explain it very well. You can use lots of tracks to create a 2D sliding image as a video file, then use this video file in the 3D project to skew it.

Making a long photo montage works well too. You'll just have to add the movement in 3D as well as the skew.

You could create this 3D photo tunnel in Bluff Titler very easily and do your fly through and lighting as well.

That makes sense now Chien. Thank you! And thank all of you for the great ideas and tips. That's why I keep coming back here time and time again!

There is a VEG file already done for this, a small maze with pictures on both sides and a walk through.

PM and I will try and dig it out an email t to you if required.
