Turning from Avid to SoFo...

Hi,

Just a note to any doubters out there. Just got through exploring Avid xpressDV.
All $1800 dollars of the PowerPack! Nice colours on the interface. Took FOREVER
to get going. Very frustrating. Manual like a phone book! Opened up the Vegas
Beta again. The sense of awe I originally felt when I saw VV 3.0 came back.
My god, this thing is powerful. And if you have Sound Forge 6.0 also! People
just have to realize that Avid/ Premiere/ Final Cut, are based on an outmoded
working methodology, based on the way things used to be done 20 years ago. They
are computer duplications of the old film flatbed/ VTR setups. One can see that
Sonic Foundry have just skipped ahead, and assumed that computer savvy folks
would be happier in a newer, slicker, "cut and paste" world. How is it that the
digital guru Scott Billups doesn't seem to know about Sofo. No mention on www.
pixelmonger.com! Oh, well. I hope SoFo stay around long enough to develope a
future Vegas that handles HiDef, when the cameras come down to earth in price.
OK, back to look at the beta test... <M>

i tried Avid XDV 3.x sometime before too. it was a good proggy but i just couldnt figure out what to do. its very complicated and daunting. i never got a chance to try the color correction tool because it was very slow and my mind was burning! :( i had the genarts sapphire too which, in my opinion, are the best plugins ever for any program. costly though. i hope satish can port those plugins to VV.

Our facility (at my day job) has the latest AVID Media Composer, a boardset and software solution that costs as much as a mid-priced single family home. It is unintuitive for new users but fast as lightning when used by an expert editor. Don't like it all that much but do use it to edit BetaSX/SP/DVCAM. Is it better than Vegas? Well, of course it is, at about 80 times the price. Is their grossly overpriced 1394 software solution as good as Vegas? Har har -- Premiere 6.0 with Boris Grafitti and wipe plug ins is faster! This is why we also have Vegas Video at my day job, it is the best software based NLE out there. If my wife and I could afford to buy a Media Composer for our private business, just think what a nice house we'd have!
