UA DSp card is coming out soon! Time to reconsider VST?

Universal Audio's Powered Plugin DSP card is shipping now. I know quite a few of us have been waiting for this sucker. Trouble is, as far as I know and according to customer service at UA, it will only run VST, NOT direct-x !!!!

If this card does what it is supposed to, then it is a MUST have for me. Therein lies a BIG problem.
SF doesnt want to support VST. Bad enough that we cant get " VST Dynamics" the only dx or vst noise gate worth a damn, or dynasone, or prosoniq reverbs. FINE, most of these will run with the amulet VST adapter.

sort of

BUT people tell mwe the adapter will only allow ONE UA DSP plug to run at a time. Anyone know anything about this?

If this is the case, then SF I BEG you, either reconsider supporting VST or please talk to UA and have this card DX ready. Not next year, not in tomorrow land but NOW, please. This ranks up there in importance, right next to the midi fader control we dont have IMHO

My understanding is that there's an interface in DirectX8 that would make something like this possible, and potentially more efficient than a VST version because routing audio to a chain of effects on the card would be possible (instead of a round trip per instance)

I got this information from Soundscape who are investigating DSP accelerated DirectX plugins. Another advantage of their system would be the fact that they already have a large number of plugin vendors (I.E. Sonic Timeworks) supporting their architecture.

I'd be interested in this card as long as I could run it in all of my Direct-X apps and if I didn't have to fork out too much cash for an adapter.

I sure hope soundscape is trying to put their dsp to better use! A mixpander that could run dx plugs would be unreal!
Right now the logic, saw and cubendo users have something killer that we cant get, the ability to use the UA card as vst plugs.
Not to mention they have midi control over their faders. I hope sf either lobbies UA kinda hard, or supports vst so we can use this thing. UA really should be making a dx version of this.

As it stands, the VST-DX Adapters do NOT work with the UAD-1. However, we have a UAD-1 here @ FXpansion, and we're working hard at making the combination work fully.

BTW... I don't monitor these forums, just stopped by while DL'ing the latest Acid / Vegas demos to test w/ the "new" adapter and UAD-1 combo. I'll post an announcement on the site as soon as it's all working properly and has been verified by UA themselves. If you've any questions, please email me.
