To export your 3D file to Vegas you want to make an AVI file with an alpha channel.

If you are using the new Ulead Cool 3D Production Studio there are only two steps:

Step 1: Use the menu option; File->Export Video Overlay... -> AVI...
Step 2: Enter a file name and press OK.

If you are using the original Ulead Cool 3D 3.5 here are the steps:

Step 1: Use the menu option: File->Create Animation File... -> Video File...
Step 2: Select Save as type: Microsoft AVI Files (*.avi)
Step 3: Press the Options... button
Step 4: In the Video Save Options dialog box select Compression: None
Step 5: Under Data type: select 32-Bit RGB
Step 6: Press OK
Step 7: Enter a filename: and Press OK

Step 5 is the critical step. The default is data type 24-Bit which only gives you 8 bits for each for Red Green and Blue. You need the another 8 bits to carry the alpha transparency information (which makes 4x8=32 bits)

Vegas 4 will not recognize the alpha channel at first until you tell it to. After you drop the video on a track, right-click on it and select properties from the pop-up menu. Then on the dialog that pops up, go to the Media tab and change Alpha channel: property from none to Straight (unmatted) and press OK.

Your 3D video should now have a checker board background where the alpha channel was and it should be floating over the lower tracks.

Save them as 32 bit avi files when you render. Then in Vegas, drop them on the timeline, the transparency should be auto-recognized. If not, right click the file and choose Premultiplied/Dirty. Vegas will then see the transparency channel correctly

I use Cool 3D Studio. Here you go to File/Create video file. Render it to AVI and then import the file to Vegas. Set your project dimensions before render.

If you save your 3d objects in Cool3D as .3DS or .MD2 files they can be directly imported in vegas using the Wax 2.0 plugin.

I found if you export them as a Targa Sequence, with alpha, the end product is cleaner than using an AVI. Try it and see.

Import into Vegas as a Sequence.

Dave T2: I have to agree with you on this one. I use the TGA sequence method all the time when exporting Cool 3D files to Vegas. I really like this method better than saving to an AVI file. It really is much cleaner, but that is just my opinion.
