Ultra - Chroma Keying

VV Users,

Has anyone had an opportunity to use Ultra from Serious Magic for doing Chroma Keying. I have the price to be atractive at $795.00.

Also, what is a recommendation for a M-Audio card. I would like to introduce good equipment for capturing voice over narrations.

Thanks,

Chad

Ultra is an amazing tool. Can take really bad keys and make them work quite nicely. Haven't delved in too deeply to see how they do it. I'm the host of the Ultra forum on the DMN if you want to check it out.

Cards from M-Audio? for desk or laptop? For desk, the Delta's can't be beat, only matched. For laptop or desktop, the FW 410 is great. Delta is PCI, so slightly faster. FW is Firewire. For voiceover only, the FW is all you need, and will allow you to monitor/mix surround.

Ultra kicks butt, I'm going to continue using it for 100% of my video productions, here's an example: www.daytradinguniversity.com/daytradingjuly2004.wmv

also DV rack is very useful ..

I've used Ultra, but I'm continuously amazed at how good of a key you can pull just from Vegas itself. If you're editing DV 4:1:1 footage, use the Chroma Blur effect before the Chroma Key effect, and you can get exceptionally clean keys with no stairstepping at all!

If you use secondary color correction, then chroma blur, then Chroma key, it's even tighter.
That said though, even Vegas has a tough time pulling a key from crappy footage. Ultra does that, and only that. It serves no other purpose.

Personally I think the Chroma Blur Filter was one of the best features of Vegas 5.

Ulta would be a nice addition to vegas, like Sound Forge. Have you finish your review of DV Rack? I had some trouble with it on my IBM laptop r32 1.8g mobile. no real time display, playback ok. Vegas 4/5 capture works great.
