Not surprising. The people in the sticks are still struggling to stream HD in most cases. I can imagine that with h265, they can pretty much just update the codec, and store using existing tech and manufacturing.
This spec has been anticipated for quite sometime. It has implications of such far-reaching consequence however, that how it will all play out over time remains to be seen.
1) Having a source camera to shoot 10bit color in 2020 gamut? Can this be possible on the horizon?
2) Producing a display chain of new hardware/firmware to play optical disc media thru a pipeline to a widescreen display? None of this equipment currently exists.
3) Will independent one-man production firms be able to create with an appropriate source and workflow for a burned disc with a new authorware for this format? Maybe a production chain for Hollywood level only?
