Unable to capture video from HDR-HC1 in Vegas

Got a new HDR-HC1 for Christmas, ran down and bought Vegas Studio Platinum edition. Program is not recognizing camcorder.
I can capture in Pinnacle studio 10 and can also preview video under Windows explore, right click Start and click on Sony device!
Suspect its a Sony Software problem as Pinnacle does capture HDV just fine.
Please help, nice new toy and all Christmas video just sits!

Had this problem before, coz the other software selected captured it as DV and coz the HC1 was set to auto, the pc recognized it as a dv cam.

I hope you are right as I really don't know what the fix was as I had tried so much stuff. Was even at the point of ordering the $40 cable from Sony, thinking the cable I had was not good enough
Don't laugh when I tell you this, but Pinnacle had been saying that I need a video card that was direct 9. My system is a few years old so in desperation I ordered a dual processor amd 2800 with 2 gigs orf ram, 4 hard drives configured in raid, with close to a total of 600megs. A friend had the mother board and processors at a great price as they are getting outdated. This system hopefully will hold me for a few years.
