unable to load AVI

I have an avi which came from a auto-sensing camera. It plays fine in all my media players without any plugins, but when I try loadiing it into Vegas 4.0, I only get the audio, and I see the following message;

Video Stream Attributes Could Not Be Determined.

Can anyone help me load my AVI int Vegas or tell me how I can convert this AVI so I can load it into Vegas?

A sample of this video can be found at: http://www.themapstore.biz/video/

You need to download and install the proper codec for Vegas to use. This has been mentioned many times here so a quick search should turn up the proper information.

I looked at your file, it is a Motion JPEG (MJPEG) clip. Go to www.mainconcept.com and download the demo of their MJPEG codec.

I down loaded the codec, but when I bring in any of the clips I have, they are all black. I dont get errors about the format from Vegas, but the videos are black. Also, my media players all show black with a multi-colored single line near the bottom of the movie. So I removed the codec, and then my media players all play the video clips just fine, but again, vegas does not load them.

I dont understand what is going on now. Is there another motion jpeg code I could try besides Main concepts? There must be some kind of "default" codec that is being used by power DVD and windows Media Player that I should be able to use in Vegas that works fine.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

thanks
